Inauguration Passports
Students: Passports must be turned into Student Services by 3 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 3 to be eligible for the drawing and to receive leadership points. Prizes are as follows: First Place, 19” Flat Screen TV; Second Place, IPOD Nano; Third Place, $75 in ITunes gift cards. Join Student Services as they draw three winners at 4 p.m. tomorrow. Students do not need to be present in order to win. Winners who are not present may pick up their prize in the Student Services office by Friday, Nov. 6.


Kansas City Fashion Show Winners
Laura Smith, Jessica Morton and Emily Doyen, all senior Fashion Design and Product Development majors, were selected as finalists in the Fashion Group of Kansas City Student Designer Showcase on Oct. 22. Only the top 50 entries were accepted into this show. There were nine schools from four states represented at this event. There was also a student fashion design juried competition. Emily Doyen took second place and received a $500 cash gift. In the juried faculty fashion design contest, Monica McMurry, dean of the Stephens School of Design and Fashion, placed first for her coat design.


Riding Success
Freshman Sarah Beger won with her horse, Gideon's First Symphony, the World Championship of Partbred Friesian Colts 2 years and under shown in hand. Sarah also won a dressage class riding catch-riding a Friesian stallion. Catch-riding means riding for the first time at a show.

Staff Coffee

All Stephens staff are invited to attend a Staff Coffee, hosted by Staff Advisory Council, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12 in Windsor Lounge. President Dianne Lynch will speak.



Bulletin Board
Kudos to Fletcher
Art instructor Sara Fletcher will have two paintings shown in the upcoming movie "Meet the Parents 3," by Universal Pictures, which stars Ben Stiller. The paintings, State Fair and Crossing, will appear as set decorations. The School of Design and Fashion is proud of Sara's accomplishments and hopes the best for her future work.

Faculty Show Work
Stephens School of Design and Fashion faculty were well represented at the Boone County Art Show, which took place at the Boone County National Bank in cooperation with the Columbia Art League. Sara Fletcher won second prize in Professional Painting, and Jane Matranga won second prize in Fibers. Dan Scott and Bill Helvey also exhibited works in the show. The above mentioned faculty and Kate Gray helped to hang the exhibit. This was the 50th anniversary for the largest art exhibit in central Missouri. More than 260 art works were entered by 180 local artists.

Visiting writers Katy Didden and Jessica Garratt will read together. One of Katy's poems has been selected for inclusion in the “Best New Poets 2009 Anthology.” Jessica Garratt's first book, “Fire Pond,” won the 2008 Agha Shahid Ali Prize in Poetry and was published by the University of Utah Press in 2009. Leadership points available.

A two-person exhibition featuring paintings and prints by Brian David Smith and Michael Buesking that explore narration and storytelling through process and illustration.

Good Form: Dress and Decorum for the Woman of Fashion, 1873-1911
