Getting to Know: Lynda Baumgartner
A column dedicated to acquainting
Stephens College faculty, staff and students.
Title:
Study Abroad Coordinator
Job description: to assist students in
applying for Study Abroad opportunities; to work in collaboration
with faculty and staff members to ensure that students have
a positive experience. Study
Abroad Web site
Office location: Walter Hall, Room 103
(Office hours: all day Tues./Wed. and 8 a.m.-noon Thurs.
or by appointment)
Years at Stephens: First semester at Stephens
Best part about my work: to get the opportunity
to work with young women who are seeking opportunities to
broaden their understanding of other cultures and their
impact on our world.
Words of advice to our students: My advice
to those who have not traveled outside of the U.S. would
be to begin to research the opportunities that are available.
There are so many options available and the key is to ensure
that your experience is appropriate to your chosen career
path.
Family and pets: Steve
and I have three grown children and two grandchildren. We
live in the country and have three labs and four cats.
Community involvement: Over the years,
I have done a lot of volunteer work in the community. I
feel it is very important to “pay back” .. To
volunteer to help others … I am currently a board
member for the Heart of Missouri United Way and the Columbia
Public School Foundation and a member of Northwest Rotary.
In my spare time: My husband and I recently
sold our business (Image Technologies). We will now have
MORE spare time. We love to garden and have recently purchased
new bicycles. We enjoy music and love spending Sunday afternoons
in Huntsdale (on the river) listening to music. We also
enjoy riding the motorcycle up to Fayette to eat at Emmet's.
Favorite place in Columbia: I love coffee,
so any coffee shop in Columbia! I also enjoy visits to Bluestem
- the artistic talent found there is amazing!
A couple of my favorite places in the world:
St. Gallan’s, Switzerland and the Island of Nevis
(in the West Indies)
Most people don't know: I have lived in
Columbia since 1953, so I have very few “secrets.”
Most people don’t know that I was born on my dad's
birthday and that I am retired from the U.S. Army Reserves.
