Pearls of Wisdom
All staff are encouraged to attend the dynamic seminar "YES, I did just get hit by a MACK TRUCK but I'm still STANDING" on Sept. 15 from 10-11:30 a.m. OR Sept. 16 from 1:30-3 p.m. in Windsor Lounge. Please RSVP by Sept. 11 to Sherry Howard at ext. 4156 or showard@stephens.edu. Attend and you could win door prizes such as an Aramark or Bookshelf gift certificate, a sack of change ($$) or the book "Who Moved My Cheese."

Ellie Saitta, LCSW, CEAP, EAP, manager of Behavioral Health at Boone Hospital Center, promises to deliver a lively and productive training with "pearls of wisdom" about moving through change. Plan to attend this informative hour, which will include examples of the stages of change, how each person moves through those stages differently and what we all can do to make ourselves resilient in a world that constantly throws changes our way.

Local competition
The Columbia Art League and the Daniel Boone Regional Library are partnering for a one-day painting and drawing competition as part of One Read 2009, a community-wide reading program. This year's book, "The Air We Breathe," takes place in a sanitarium where open air is the cure for TB. Plein-Air Art Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19. Later this month, Stephens' Lois Bichler will be among local college professors to participate in One's Read's "The Air We Breathe" Goes to College on Sept. 29. "Good Form: Dress and Decorum for the Woman of Fashion, 1873-1911" explores the rules that governed women's dress and daily lives at the turn of the 20th century.
