Opening on Thursday
The Playhouse Company will present
“Much Ado About Nothing,” one of Shakespeare’s
best romantic comedies, beginning on Friday evening,
Feb. 19, at 7:30 in the Macklanburg Playhouse. The
story swirls around a pair of lovers named Claudio
and Hero who are due to be married in a week. To pass
the time before their wedding they become enmeshed
in playing a trick on their friends Beatrice and Benedick.
It will eventually, of course, work out, but the riot
of misunderstanding and misplaced passions makes for
a wonderful evening of theatre.
Show dates: 7:30 p.m., Feb. 19–20, 26-27;
2 p.m. Sunday matinee, Feb. 21
Fee: $12 general, $6 student/senior,
50% discount Stephens student/employee

Stephens
Student Spotlight
Name:
Nicole Martin
Class Year: 2011
Major: Digital Filmmaking
Hometown: Green Bay, Wisconsin
Family: mother, one younger brother, and
younger three sisters
Campus Activities: Student Government Association
Executive Board, Stephens Ambassadors Executive Board, Overflow,
Martin Luther King Student Union, SCG2 Green Initiative
Leader, and whatever else someone needs me to do.
I decided to attend Stephens because: I attended
the Stephens Summer Film Institute when in high school,
and after looking at many other colleges across the nation,
Stephens was the one college that cared more about the student
than about the school's reputation or how many students
there were. Stephens allowed for creativity on all levels
of filmmaking, and the opportunity to handle the equipment
my freshman year.
Most enjoy about Stephens: The community
work. Everywhere you turn on campus you see someone that
has such a strong passion and is busy working hard at it.
You can tell a Stephens woman by her strength to persevere
through whatever it takes to succeed and achieve her goals.
Favorite place on campus/in Columbia: This is tough.
There are so many spots around town that I love either because
of the visual aesthetics or the community feel, but the
one place that stands out the most is the newly titled Alley
A. Wether filming or simply walking; the cute new shops
within the alley provide that special secret getaway feel
amidst the hustle and bustle of Columbia life.
Favorite class(es): Advanced Editing, Archival
Research, Studio Production
After I graduate, I plan to: do something.
Wherever the best offer is made, I will go there and do
that. My mind is open to any opportunity where I can grow
in my career, knowledge, and love for filmmaking.
What most people don't know: I hate pointy
toed shoes. Especially since I am above average in height,
and I already have big feet, the pointy shoes make my feet
look even longer. When I wear any of these shoes, I feel
like a clown and sometimes walk strangely in fear that I
may trip someone with my extended feet.
In my spare time: I'm supposed to have
spare time? Well, I guess I sleep in any spare time I get.
