Getting to Know: Cat Withrow
A
column dedicated to acquainting Stephens College faculty,
staff and students.
Title: Instructor
Department/Office: Liberal Arts department
Job description: Teach Global Ethics and Spanish
Office location: Dudley 107
Years at Stephens: Four years as a student
(I graduated in 2005), and 2 ½ years teaching.
My department/office described in three words:
interdisciplinary, global, community
Best part about my work: I love everything
about my job. I love that I get to teach in two different
languages. I really enjoy my colleagues and the diversity
of experience and knowledge they bring. I love the women’s
college atmosphere. Perhaps most of all, though, I love
seeing how amazing Stephens women are. Last semester, in
my ethics class, my students continually amazed me with
their ambition, creativity and willingness to help. We worked
on projects to help Trama Textiles, an indigenous women’s
weaving cooperative in Guatemala, and the work my students
have done is pretty inspiring.
Words of advice to our students: Set high
goals. People tend to rally around optimism, and if you
put yourself out there, you are likely to get more support
than you ever thought possible. Having said that, though,
take initiative! Don’t wait for something to happen
to you, don’t pass blame or responsibility, and be
proactive in your goals.
Family and pets: I
am recently engaged to Bryon Rochon – we’ll
be married in June! We live with our two dogs: Opal, a miniature
doxen, and Hugo, a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy.
Community involvement: True False Film
Festival
In my spare time, I: Run, hike, read newspapers,
and try my best at crossword puzzles.
Favorite place in Columbia: Rock Bridge
State Park, especially Shooting Star Trail, Coopers Landing,
Stephens Lake Park and Lakota.
Which faculty or staff member would you like to
see profiled in an upcoming “Getting to Know”
column? Send your nomination (name, job title and reason
for nomination) to Sarah Berghorn, Communications Coordinator,
at sberghorn@stephens.edu
or Campus Box 2051.

One of Shakespeare’s best romantic comedies! The
story swirls around a pair of lovers named Claudio and
Hero who are due to be married in a week. To pass the
time before their wedding they become enmeshed in playing
a trick on their friends Beatrice and Benedick. It will
eventually, of course, work out, but the riot of misunderstanding
and misplaced passions makes for a wonderful evening of
theatre.
