Master of Education in Counseling
Professional Counseling (LPC) Emphasis
The emphasis in Professional Counseling will partially fulfill the requirements necessary to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Missouri. Students specializing in Professional Counseling will must complete 11 core courses, three electives, and a six-hour agency-based counseling practicum. After completing the master’s degree requirements, LPC candidates must complete 3000 hours of post-degree training or experience in counseling at an agency under the supervision of a licensed counselor, psychologist, or psychiatrist.
The LPC candidate will be eligible for state examination upon completion of the academic requirements, and may be eligible to obtain provisional licensure following successful completion of the state examination. Complete licensure requirements are available at the Missouri Division of Professional Registration.

Candidacy and Graduation Requirements
Students are eligible to apply for M.Ed. candidacy upon:
- Completion of Practicum I with a 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Submission of a self-evaluation
- Submission of a recommendation from a Practicum I supervisor and field placement supervisor
M.Ed. degree candicates
must attain a minimum 3.0 GPA (B) or higher in each of their remaining
program courses.
