Stephens Volleyball Suffers 3-0 Loss at Home to Peru StateStars lose second consecutive match in straight sets, fall to Bobcats, 25-21, 25-15, 25-13
COLUMBIA, Mo. – (Box Score) Playing without freshman Kerri Kircher, one of team’s top offensive weapons, the Stephens College volleyball team fell in straight sets to Peru State College (Neb.) on Friday (Oct. 4). Following a back-and-forth first set (25-21), the visiting Bobcats won the next two with ease, closing out the match with scores of 25-15 and 25-13.
In Set 1, several players contributed offensively as the Stars jumped out to a 10-7 lead with kills from Yonne Nasimiyu, Alyssa Beavers, Jenna Zmyslony and Madison Reale. The two non-conference opponents then traded points and were tied on four separate occasions before the Bobcats took the lead for good at the 15-16 mark.
The Stars couldn’t find any traction in the second set and totaled 12 errors. Meanwhile, Peru State played a clean game, outhitting the Stars .321 to .000.

Outside hitter Yonne Nasimiyu, who moved inside with the absence of the injured middle Kerri Kircher, led the team in hitting with a .308 attack percentage, while also contributing five kills, nine digs and two blocks. Setter Samantha Phegley recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 22 assists and 10 digs. Upperclassman Madison Reale led the Stars with seven kills on 24 attempts.
The Stephens College volleyball team continues its four-game homestand with an AMC match against 15th-ranked Missouri Baptist on Monday (Oct. 7) at 7 p.m.
