Stephens Soccer Falls to Freed-Hardeman, 9-0Captains Kenzie Andrade and Michaela Daniels registered the Stars' only shots of the game
HENDERSON, Tenn. – (Box Score) On the road for its fifth consecutive match, the Stephens College soccer team (1-16-0, 0-8-0 AMC) dropped its fourth AMC contest in a row in to Freed-Hardeman University. Struggling to produce on offense, the Stars were blanked 9-0 and were shut out for the 12th time in 2013.
The Lions wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as they notched three quick goals in the 7th, 8th and 9th minutes. Ten minutes later, FHU was back at it again coming away with two more goals to increase its margin to 5-0.
Ten shots and 46 minutes passed before the Lions could muster another goal. FHU’s Taylor Jenkins found the back of the net at the 65:42 mark and reached hat-trick status with the goal. The home team tacked on three more goals for the 9-0 victory.
With less than 10 minutes remaining, the Stars pushed the ball upfield into Lion territory and managed to get off two shots. Junior captain Kenzie Andrade placed one on goal that was brought in by FHU goalkeeper Jadey Richey, while sophomore Michaela Daniels recorded the Stars’ other shot, one that missed wide.
Stars’ sophomore goalkeeper Briannica Ponder pulled in 14 saves on the day in addition to a pair of team saves credited to the Star defense.
The Stephens College soccer team will conclude its 2013 campaign on Wednesday (Oct. 30) with a home match against Benedictine University at Springfield. The lone senior on the team, defender Polly Mytinger, will be recognized on the Stars’ “Senior Day.”
