HANNIBAL, Mo. Ė (Box Score) The Stephens College soccer team has now dropped two consecutive contests to AMC opponents after scoring the programís first win at Faith Baptist Bible College last week. On Tuesday afternoon, the Stars lost to Hannibal-LaGrange University, 10-0.
With temperatures in the low 50s, swirling winds and a hard playing surface, the Stars were unable to adjust to the conditions and for the fifth time this season, were held without a shot. The Trojans managed to take 59 shots on the afternoon, with 27 of them on target.
Hannibal-LaGrange jumped out to a 4-nothing lead in the first 16 minutes and notched another pair before the break to take a 6-0 advantage into halftime. The Trojans found the back of the net four more times to make it a 10-0 ballgame. Following the Trojansí 10th goal at the 69:08 mark, the Stars amped up the pressure defensively and prevented the Trojans from scoring on their next 11 shot attempts.
Starsí goalkeeper Briannica Ponder recorded five saves in the final 20 minutes to bring her total to 17 saves on the day.
Next up for the Stars is a makeup game with Williams Baptist (Ark.). Originally scheduled for Sept. 28 in Columbia, Mo., the Stars will now travel to Walnut Ridge, Ark. in order to fit the game into both teamsí schedules.
