Park University Cruises Past Stars, 21-0Lady Pirates dominate possession, convert on 21 of 40 shot on goal attempts
COLUMBIA, Mo. – (Box Score) Looking to bounce back after a 14-0 loss at Columbia College last Thursday, the Stephens College soccer team faced yet another quality opponent from the American Midwest Conference (AMC) in Park University. On Wednesday (Oct. 2), the Stars were held scoreless for the sixth time this season and were shutout by the Lady Pirates, 21-0.
From the get-go, the Stephens College squad (0-10-0, 0-3-0 AMC) was forced to chase the ball as the Lady Pirates (3-5-0, 3-0-0 AMC) moved the ball quickly and stretched the field the entire 90 minutes. The aggressive attack and stout defense prevented the Stars from taking any shot attempts, while Park cranked out 63 shots, 40 of which were on goal.
All 11 of the Lady Pirates’ field players scored at least one goal. Leading the charge for the visitors were forward Shnell Briscoe and midfielder Bridget Steiner. Both Park players recorded 5 goals and 2 assists apiece in the contest.
Stephens College sophomore goalkeeper Briannica Ponder made 19 saves, including several that were destined to find the back of the net.
The Stars will look to halt their scoreless streak when they head to Batesville, Ark. for a league matchup with Lyon College on Tuesday, October 8.
