STEPHENS STARS SIGN LISA MCENTYRE AS NAIA SOFTBALL RECRUIT FOR 2006-2007
COLUMBIA
, Mo. - Stephens College announces the signing of Lisa McEntyre,
an incoming freshman from Livingston , Texas , for the 2006-2007
softball season. McEntyre, a first baseman who plans to major in
journalism at Stephens, signed on June 15, 2006, at Stephens College
. The upcoming season will mark the return of softball to the College.
Cross country will also be added to the College's NAIA sports
teams, which also include volleyball, basketball, swimming and tennis.
As a Big Sandy High School student, McEntyre was involved in numerous organizations including member, Fellowship of Christian Athletes; president, National Honor Society; treasurer, Spirit Committee; editor-in-chief, WildKat Korner ; Student Council, and a variety of other clubs and organizations.
McEntyre's excellence on the softball field has also brought her many honors and awards. As a freshman, McEntyre made the varsity squad and was named the 2002-03 Newcomer of the Year. She earned 1 st Team All-District honors in 2003-04 and 2004-05, with district honors still pending for 2005-06. As a junior, McEntyre posted a .418 batting average and reached first base safely 56% of the time. She maintained her outstanding performance as a senior with a .400 plus batting average and a .900 fielding percentage. As a junior and senior, McEntyre helped lead her team to the Texas 1A State Tournament, with a runner-up finish in 2004-05 and a semifinal appearance in 2005-06.
"I become more impressed with Lisa every time we talk," says Chris Collier, Stephens College head softball coach. "My vision for our softball team has always been a group of young ladies who love the game and have a positive attitude. Lisa always wears a smile and has a knack for bringing humor to the surface. The next four years at Stephens will be lively ones, and I couldn't be more excited to have Lisa on our team."
