stephens college signs jessica mcconnell as naia basketball and softball recruit for 2009

COLUMBIA , Mo. – Stephens College announces the signing of Jessica McConnell, a senior at Edwardsville High School in Edwardsville, Il., for the 2009-2010 season. McConnell signed her letter of intent on May 27, 2009, at Edwardsville High School. McConnell earned the following awards during her high school career:

  High School Basketball Honors and Statistics:

  • 3rd Team All Southwestern Conference (2008-2009)
  • 1st Team All Area (2008-2009)
  • Team finished 31-2 (2008-2009)
  • 5.8 points per game
  • 2.0 assists per game
  • 1.1 steals per game
  • 44% field goal percentage
  • 72% free throw percentage

High School Softball Honors and Statistics:

  • 1st Team All Southwestern Conference (2007-2008)
  • 2nd Team All Southwestern Conference (2006-2007)
  • Team Player of the Week (Week 1 – 2008-2009)
  • Team is currently 30-4
  • .336 batting average
  • .394 on base percentage
  • .457 slugging percentage
  • 17 runs batted in
  • Team leader in plate appearances
  • .110 strikeouts per plate appearance

“Jessica has been a part of some outstanding teams at Edwardsville High School,” says Dane Pavlovich, Stephens College head basketball coach and associate athletic director. “She is a proven winner, and with her work ethic and drive, we feel she can replicate the success she had in high school to Stephens.”

“Jessica is an exceptionally talented student-athlete,” says Pam Dodge, Stephens College head softball coach. “Though her primary position is catcher, she has shown the versatility to excel at any position she is needed. We look forward to Jessica bringing her effort to the field to help us continue to build the program.”

Stephens offers National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) sports teams in basketball, cross country, softball, swimming, tennis and volleyball. The College began play in the American Midwest Conference in Fall 2008.
