STEPHENS STARS SIGN FAITH MATTIS AS NAIA BASKETBALL AND VOLLEYBALL RECRUIT FOR 2009

COLUMBIA , Mo. – Stephens College announces the signing of Faith Mattis, a senior at Braymer High School in Braymer, Mo, for the 2009-2010 seasons. Mattis signed her letter of intent on April 8, 2009, at Braymer High School. Mattis earned the following awards during her high school career:

High School Volleyball Honors and Awards:

  • Team Leader in Assists (2006)
  • Team Leader in Assists, Aces, and Serving Percentage (2007)
  • Lathrop All-Tournament Team (2007)
  • 2nd Team All-District (2007)
  • Team Leader in Assists and Aces (2008)
  • Defensive Player of the Year (2008)
  • Team MVP (2008)
  • 1st Team All-District (2008)
  • Academic All-State (2008)
  • State Leader in Digs (2008)

High School Basketball Statistics:

  • 6.8 points per game, 6.4 assists per game, 3.5 steals per game, 5.8 rebounds per game (2008-2009)
  • 547 career points, 465 career assists, 351 career steals, 416 career rebounds

High School Basketball Honors and Awards:

  • All-Conference Tournament team (2005)
  • All-Conference Defensive team (2005)
  • Team Leader in Assists and Steals (2005-2009)
  • MSHSAA record holder with 14 steals in a single game (2006)
  • Braymer Invitational All-Tournament Team (2007-2009)
  • KMZU Dream Team (2007-2009)
  • 1st Team All-District (2009)
  • Lion's Club All-Star Game (2009)

“Faith is a confident and capable student-athlete,” says Dane Pavlovich, Stephens College head basketball coach and associate athletic director. “She understands both the volleyball and basketball games very well, and she is athletic enough to be able to compete for playing time right away. Faith is a tremendous addition for both programs.”

Stephens offers National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) sports teams in basketball, cross country, softball, swimming, tennis and volleyball. The College began play in the American Midwest Conference in Fall 2008.
