STEPHENS STARS SIGN MELISSA PEREZ AS NAIA BASKETBALL RECRUIT FOR 2007-2008

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Stephens College announces the signing of Melissa Perez, a senior at W. Charles Akins High School in Austin, Texas, for the 2007-2008 basketball season. Perez, a 5’7” guard, signed her letter of intent on May 21, 2007. Stephens also offers National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) sports teams in cross country, softball, swimming, tennis and volleyball.
High School Honors and Awards:

  • Three-year varsity starter
  • Academic All-District: sophomore, junior and senior years
  • Eagles Spirit Award: junior year
  • Best Offensive Player: junior year
  • 1st Team All-District: junior year
  • 2nd Team All-District: senior year

Senior Year Statistics (per game):

  • 5 points
  • 3 rebounds
  • 2 steals
  • 80% free throw percentage

“Melissa had a great career on some great teams at Akins High School,” says Dane Pavlovich, Stephens College head basketball coach. “She has the ability to shoot the three, but she does a variety of other things well on the court.  Melissa fits very well into our program, and she has the potential to do some amazing things at Stephens.”
