STEPHENS STARS SIGN KERRI SHANKS AS NAIA BASKETBALL RECRUIT FOR 2007-2008

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Stephens College announces the signing of Kerri Shanks, a transfer student from Cottey College in Nevada, Mo., for the 2007-2008 basketball season. Shanks, a 5’7” point guard from Centerview, Mo., signed her letter of intent on Aug. 20, 2007. Stephens also offers National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) sports teams in cross country, softball, swimming, tennis and volleyball.
High School Honors and Awards:

  • Three-time KMZU Dream Team
  • Three-time All-Johnson County Team
  • Three-time Cass-Midway All Tournament Team
  • Three-time All-Conference
  • 2005 Lions All-Star Team
  • Districts, first place, 2003-04, 2004-05
  • State, fourth place, 2004-05
  • Three-time Crest Ridge MVP
  • 1,000 points in 2005
  • All-American Christian Athlete,  2004-05

Cottey College Statistics:

  • 2005-06: 2nd Team All-Region, 37% three pointers, 38% FG , 66% FT, 3.6 rebounds per game, 4.5 assists per game, 11.9 points per game
  • 2006-07: 1st team All-Region, NJCAA Player of the Week in 2007, 50% three pointers, 43% FG, 67% FT, 3.1 rebounds per game, five assists per game and 11.7 points per game

Cottey College Records:

  • first in Top Three-Point Percentage (single season over 100 attempts), 50.4% (2006-07)
  • second in Top Three-Point Percentage (single season over 100 attempts), 36.5%  (2005-06)
  • third in assist average (single season), 115, 5.0 average (2006-07)
  • fourth in assist average (single season) 109, 4.7 average (2005-06)
  • fourth in steals (single season) 54, 2.34 average (2005-06)

“Kerri is a quality student-athlete who will make an immediate impact in our program,” says Dane Pavlovich, Stephens College head basketball coach. “She is a well-rounded player who can make a variety of plays on both the offensive and defensive ends.  She will have an outstanding career at Stephens.”
