stephens stars sign haley caldwell as NAIA basketball/softball recruit for 2008-2009

COLUMBIA , Mo. – Stephens College announces the signing of Haley Caldwell, a sophomore at John Wood Community College, for the 2008-2009 seasons. Caldwell, a 5'6” guard and infielder, signed her letter of intent on July 2nd, 2008 at Lela Raney Wood Hall on the Stephens' campus.

Senior Year Basketball Statistics, Honors, and Awards:

  • 14.3 points per game
  • 4.6 rebounds per game
  • 5.0 assists per game
  • 4.4 steals per game
  • 1 st Team All Conference
  • All District Honorable Mention
  • Quincy Herald Whig All Star Team

College Basketball Statistics (Haley was injured in 2007-2008):

  • 3.9 points per game
  • 1.3 rebounds per game
  • 80% free throw percentage

Senior Year Softball Honors and Awards:

  • .333 batting average
  • .482 on base percentage
  • 24 runs scored
  • 1 st Team All Conference
  • 1 st Team All District
  • All Region
  • 1 st Team All State

College Softball Statistics (Haley was injured in 2008):

  • Team leader in stolen bases: 7
  • 3 rd on the team in walks: 11
  • Team leader in sacrifices: 6

“Haley has had a good deal of persistence in her athletic career,” says Dane Pavlovich, Stephens College head basketball coach and associate athletic director. “She has battled injuries, but has always been a tremendous competitor with a strong work ethic. She is a versatile student-athlete on both the court and diamond, and both programs will benefit from her ability to play multiple positions very well.”

Stephens offers National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) sports teams in basketball, cross country, softball, swimming, tennis and volleyball. The College will begin play in the American Midwest Conference in Fall 2008.
