Crane Has Big Day at Maryville Cross Country Open, Places Seventh OverallThe Stars finished seventh out of eight teams during Saturday's 6K race
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – (Results) Kaylyn Crane raced to another top performance for the Stephens College cross country team this weekend at the Maryville University XC Open. The senior from Columbia, Mo. recorded her first top 10 finish of the season on Saturday (Sept. 28) placing seventh out of 57 runners.
Competing for the third week in a row, the Stars took five athletes to St. Louis, qualifying for a team score for the second time this season. Among the field of eight, Stephens College finished seventh overall ahead of Robert Morris University.
Crane crossed the finish line for the 6K race in 24:32.50 and finished more than three minutes ahead of the Stars’ No. 2 runner.
Senior Dani Kelley notched the second-fastest time for Stephens, clocking in at 27:41.90. She finished 34th overall. Junior Ivi Lewis was the next to finish, placing 49th with a time of 32:03.70.
Junior Emily Mendoza returned to action this weekend and finished fourth among Stephens’ runners and 51st overall at 32:54.20. Rounding out the Stars’ five was junior Tara Chronister (54th) with a time of 34:57.20.
The Stephens cross country team will have two weeks before the Central Methodist University Gary Stoner Invitational (5K) on Saturday, October 12.
