I’ve been in South Africa for 3 days and I’m already in love. My first full day here we got to go on a walk through the reserve section, the “no walking past this point” section, with the lion cubs. There are 2 lion cubs at the facility, Nandi and Duna. It was their first trip out so they naturally walked us all over the place for 2 hours even though it was supposed to last 30 minutes. We got to play with them afterwards!
Only in Africa would there be a baby giraffe that roams around the clinic. Her name is Melman, like from Madagascar, because they were told by the people bringing her that she’s a boy and super clumsy. The clumsy part was correct but she’s definitely a girl.
The new volunteers get to take the tour that the community and tourists can go on when they get to the camp. I got to pet a cheetah and a Bateleur and got to fly a vulture! The Bateleur is named Mr. Chicken and he follows us around the cage until we’ll pet him. What an attention hog!
