How to Apply for a Stafford Loan
Starting with the 2010 - 2011 school year Stephens College is participating in the Direct Loan Program. Previously Stephens College participated in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) where students borrowed money from a lender, such as a bank. In the Direct Loan program, students will borrow directly from the Federal Government. Please read the FAQs that we've compiled. Steps to Apply For Your Stafford Loan
After accepting your Stafford loan on your award notice, there are a few more steps to take in order to receive your Stafford loan.
- Complete Loan Entrance Counseling if you are a first-time borrower
at Stephens.
First-time borrowers and transfer borrowers are required to participate in a Loan Entrance Counseling session before your loan funds are disbursed.- You will need to have your Department of Education issued PIN to begin the process. If you do not have your PIN, please visit the official PIN site. You will also need certain hardware and software to complete the process.
- Once you sign in, you can begin the process by choosing Complete Entrance Counseling.
- After you have successfully completed the online counseling, we will receive an electronic confirmation.
You may contact the Financial Aid Office at finaid@stephens.edu to request an Entrance Counseling booklet or an appointment with a Financial Aid Counselor if you do not wish to complete entrance counseling online.
- All Direct Loan borrowers must complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN).
- You will need to have your Department of Education issued PIN to begin the process. If you do not have your PIN, please visit the official PIN site. You will also need certain hardware and software to complete the process.

3. Complete a Stafford Loan Data Sheet.request a paper Master Promissory Note.
The Student Loan Data Sheet lets the Financial Aid Office know how
much of your awarded amount you would like to borrow and which semesters you want the loan for.
- You may complete this form online or download and print a copy (PDF) and mail or fax it to the Financial Aid Office.
