Study Tips
Studying can be a daunting task if you have never studied before or are just not sure how to go about studying. But there are things that you can do to relax and actually learn and retain the information needed. Here are a few tips.
A week before the test:
- Go through all of your notes. Rewrite any information that is hard to read.
- Highlight important information. Example: names in pink, dates in green, definitions in yellow.
- Create flashcards out of 3x5 note cards.
- Make sure that all required reading material has indeed been read.
- Study more hours now.
A few days before the test:
- Get together with a few other people in your class in study groups.
- Go through flashcards.
- Study fewer hours than before, to keep down stress levels.
- While studying, chew on mint gum. The mint is proven to help wake up the brain, while the constant chewing will create a rhythm that will be remembered.
The day before the test:
- Glance over all important information.
- Go over flashcards.
- Relax.
- If there is any information that you are having trouble remembering, make flashcards for it. Go over them more than the rest of the flashcards.
An hour before the test:
- Go through the flashcards again, slowly.
- Relax.
- Pay special attention to the more difficult information flashcards.
- Chew mint gum.
During the test:
- Breathe!
- Think of the test as more of a worksheet. It will help keep stress levels down.
- Make sure you have a fresh piece of gum in your mouth, along with extras in your pocket.
- Relax! You’ve studied – and know your stuff!
After the test:
- Breathe! You’re done!
- Treat yourself to a yummy snack.
Congratulations! You have just learned a few tips on how to study. While these methods might not work for you, they may work for a friend. The only way to find the way that works for you – try!
