Stephens Success

Roommates & Suitemates

PHOTO: Students in suiteI decided not to have a roommate because I am a very private person, and I am not the neatest person. I decided to interview a person that does have a roommate. Her name is Tara and she is a freshman.

Me: Was living in a double room your first choice?
Tara: No, I wanted to live in Roblee in the suite-style rooms, but I was so late in registering I was put in a double. It was my last choice actually.

Me:  Did you have a roommate before, like when you lived at home?
Tara:  No, I never had a roommate; I always had my own room.

Me: Did you worry about moving in with your roommate?
Tara: Yeah, because I thought that we wouldn’t get along, and also community style bathrooms worried me, but it turned out not to be so bad.

Me: Did you and your roommate ever talk before moving in to discuss things?
Tara: We talked on the Internet, and we talked about the things we were bringing, and we got to know each other.

Me: Do you and your roommate share anything?
Tara: We share a television and a DVD/VCR player. We also share a phone, but some people with roommates share fridges, fans and many other things.

Me: What are the negative things about living in a double room?
Tara: I was lucky with my roommate, but some problems are room size, contrasting design ideas and privacy. Some roommates get along but sometimes late-night habits can get annoying.

Me: Final question: what are the positives of living in a double room?
Tara: New friendships, a very special open relationship, you can always talk to your roommate, you share a lot of things, and you help each other. Also the other girls in the hall are great and helpful.

I hope that this has helped you get an idea of what campus life is all about. Just know that it is as fun as you make it, and I hope to see you in the fall.
