Home Schooled Students
At Stephens College we are committed to meeting the changing needs of all women. We recognize the wealth of talent you bring to our campus as a home schooled student, and we encourage you to submit your application for admission. With an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 700 students and average class size of 13 you will be able to receive the individual attention and intimate learning environment you have enjoyed at home. We also believe you will feel at home in Columbia, MO. Otherwise known as Collegetown, USA, Columbia possesses a unique blend of metropolitan flair and Midwestern hospitality.
Application for Admission
Stephens College uses the same criteria to evaluate home schooled applicants as we do for all other students; but we also recognize that you have a distinctive academic background. We would like you to approach your application with the intention of providing us with a complete picture of your preparation for college. Because we value individualism you are welcome to present supplemental items to your application file in your own unique way. Below are a few recommendations for you to follow as you submit your application for admission to Stephens College:
Required Application Materials
- Complete an application (the application fee of $25 is waived for applications completed online, or you may request a paper copy of the application);
- Provide a transcript from an accredited home schooling program . If a transcript is not available provide a detailed list of your academic coursework at the secondary (high school) level;
- Submit scores from nationally recognized standardized tests (ACT or SAT)
- Submit a letter of recommendation. In selecting someone who will recommend you, we encourage you to select an individual who is not a family member such as an employer, pastor or coach.
Encouraged Supplemental Items
- In addition to the required admission application essay, you are welcome to provide other formally presented work that demonstrates your academic abilities;
- Provide a short narrative, written by the person primarily responsible for your academic training, describing the nature of your secondary-level education. This document is not a recommendation, but a description of your instruction in recent years;
- Schedule a visit to our campus for a tour and a meeting with your admissions counselor.
We welcome you to our campus for a visit or encourage you to contact us for assistance via phone (800-876-7207), email or request information by submitting an online inquiry.
