Although many students elect to major in Biology at Stephens, students interested in medical careers can major in any discipline they wish. Upon entrance at Stephens, faculty advisers help students plan an academic course of study for their particular professional interests.

When reviewing applications, professional programs are interested in the following areas of the student's development:

1. Volunteer experience in the field of interest should be varied. For example, if you are interested in pre-med, you should have volunteer experience in ob/gyn, neurology, geriatrics, pediatrics, orthopedics, etc.

2. Leadership showing active participation in organizations.

3. Independent research conducted by the student.

4. Knowledge of current literature in the student's field of interest.

Questions about pre-professional programs may be directed to Lois Bichler, chair of the Stephens College Department of Natural Sciences, or the Office of Admission at (800) 876-7207.

LAW
Stephens offers a B.A. in Legal Studies for students interested in law school or legal-related fields, and a 3:3 Law program with the neighboring University of Missouri-Columbia (MU), which allows Stephens students to earn early admission to MU’s Law School. Students earn a bachelor’s degree from Stephens after the successful completion of the first year of law school and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from MU after three additional years. A minor in Legal Studies also is available.
