"Hostages"

Oceans surround you-

trees snake up from

dead

    swamp

         waters

Mississippi frozen waters

                Showboat Belle idles by

While many rejoice upon its gracious decks.

All the while, this contented party masks what lies ahead....

Grand city life as you dig deeper!

Sack & Save, Haden's Hardware and Buick dealerships,

ramshackle houses and gardens gasping for air among Southern beauties.

What a grand place this is!

Country life holds no victims; only hostages.

quite simply, you are a parallel revolution

Life is a never-ending coil

With twists and turns

And you are the one thing that I did not count on.

You are the mistake in the waltz.

You are the messy footprint on starched carpet,

You are the wrinkle on pressed sheets.

Your entrance was not marked

By a calendar day

Nor a smudge in time

But you.

Quite simply

in this parallel revolution,

You are the Earth.

Your smile is the equator

Your eyes are the horizon

Your gaze is the orbit

You are the gravity holding me in place.

You are limitless.

As the sky is to the moon

And the Earth to the sn.

And I am your zodiac

in this

parallel revolution.

A Solitary Blue

Lush green grass-

dead trees

wiggle solemn fingers towards

a

   blue

         blue

               sky

desperate roots grasp for life in swampy pools

of desolately clouded water

while tufts of clouds swim

slowly

       and

            forever

                     in the ocean sky above.

How can anything be so dead and so alive at the same time?

Louisiana earth murmurs soft lullabies

singing sweet.
