Marketing: Public Relations & Advertising Degree Coordinator
Barbara Scott Dawdy, MAOM, enjoyed 15 successful years in communications, advertising, sales and business management before joining the Stephens family – specializing higher education, banking, retail, government, insurance, medical, legal, real estate and trade show industries.
Most recently, she served as VP, chief marketing and communications officer for a university in the Midwest; the VP of sales and marketing for a financial institution in the Midwest; and the director of client and business development for an advertising agency in the Northwest. As a result, her expertise includes such areas as branding, strategic planning, campaign conception/management, positioning strategies, customer service, sales management, graphic design, fund-raising, event-planning, public speaking, social media, direct-response marketing and crisis management.
Dawdy holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in organizational management. She is a member of Public Relations Society of America and serves on the Mid-Mo. PRSA chapter's board of directors. She is also faculty adviser to Stephens' Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) and Mortar Board chapters and Stephens' student-run integrated marketing communications agency, Creative Ink.
Susan Bartel, APR, CFMP, has more than 25 years of experience as an administrator, consultant and educator. She is active in the community and in her profession. She has held national and local leadership positions in the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and served on the board of directors for several not-for-profit agencies.
Bartel has a bachelor's degree in education and business and a master's degree in counseling psychology; she has also earned accreditation in public relations and marketing. She has received several awards for teaching and national recognition for her work in marketing communications.
Pam Shackelford's area of expertise is in finance and accounting. She is active in the support and promotion of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and serves as the Sam Walton Fellow for Stephens College.
Shackelford previously was a financial analyst with Monsanto Corporation for 15 years, where she specialized in fixed asset management.
She was instrumental in converting Monsanto's general accounting to state-of-the-art technology. She has an MBA and is active in professional organizations including the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) where she serves as a Regional Board of Directors.
Orlando Smith has more than 20 years of experience working in the Non-Profit sector. In addition to teaching various for-profit management and economics courses, Smith specializes in facilitating courses in Social Entrepreneurship that prepare students for nonprofit leadership and management. He is certified in the area of in Non-Profit Administration and Leadership.
Smith continues to serve as a Mentor to at-risk youth in the City of St. Louis as well as serving on the board of directors for an educational institution in St. Charles, Mo.
